IC Information
Name: Natalia Korda
Canon: Resident Evil Revelations 2
Gender: female
Age: 9
History: Wikia

Personality:
Upon the first glance, a person could see what would be a very basic stereotype of the horror genre: a little girl wearing a white nightgown in a place of terror and death where no little girl should rightfully be. Going by stereotype, this would be the little ghost girl or someone incredibly terrifying. Natalia Korda is that stereotype, except only skin deep: she's the little girl lost on a horrific island filled with monsters, wearing a white nightgown and carting around a limp teddy bear. It's scarier still that she has ribbons in her hair and the first time we meet her, she runs across the screen when you're in some barbaric prison covered in blood and sharp, rotating blades. When you later get to know her, she falls further into that stereotype by having amnesia and some sort of superpower as well, except hers is just to sense monsters.

But that stereotype, as said before, is only skin-deep. Natalia is actually a very reserved and optimistic nine year old girl who comes from a world constantly plagued by bio-terrorism. She was very young when her parents were killed in the Terragrigia incident, and was saved by a TerraSave employee: Neil Fisher, who gave her the teddy bear that she clings to as the one thing who wouldn't leave her. Lottie, her bear, is something she takes with her everywhere she goes if she can, and will actually talk to like an actual friend, although Natalia is smart enough not to do that in front of others because she knows that they would think her weird.
Dark!Natalia: What if Lottie's the whole reason you're alone? What if no one wants to be around you because you're a stupid girl who loves stupid teddy bears?
Natalia: I know she's just a teddy bear! But I've had her for so long I just-- she's the only thing left in my life that's good.
Despite this, she is quite bright and determined, usually needing little to no instruction and letting very little stand in her way when she sets her mind to something. However, her mindset reflects her history: she's scared of being left alone, and as such will behave herself in such a manner that adults don't find her irritating so they don't leave her. That means Natalia never complains about anything, even things that children really should complain about (examples in the game when she denies being scared around monsters, will run after Barry into a gas-filled sewer, insists that she's okay whenever he asks and that she doesn't need to rest after running around all day, and never asks about taking breaks or food/water). This also carries over into her being quite demure and apologetic whenever someone around her is upset. Despite being so young, Natalia is very conscious of what people might think of her, and will apologize for bringing up sore topics, and knows when not to ask questions. She's also very set in her beliefs of what is good and bad, knowing that what causes pain and sadness are bad things while people who are kind and helpful are 'good'.

There's a core of strength in her, and a bravery honed from everything she's endured. Despite being nine, Natalia has demonstrated that she is not entirely helpless and knows what's best for herself: she will refuse to be left behind 'for her own safety', will stay out of the way in fights and even help out in what way she can by throwing bricks at the enemies. She doesn't, and this can't be stressed enough, doesn't need to be constantly looked after. Natalia will not wander off on her own, will not hinder people, and refuses to be a burden if she can help it. The only time in the game when she actually needed help was a short period when she hurt her leg and had to be carried around, and even that time-frame is extremely short, lasting only one conversation with her finally saying, "I can walk now."
Dark!Natalia: This is so exhausting. You should just give up.
Natalia: No! I won't.
This is the little girl who will go into a locked room knowing there is a monster in the other side, armed with only a brick, because she knows that she needs to help out. Not only that, but this little girl will be the one to smash a monster's head in with the brick when it's down on the ground, getting on her knees and using both hands in order to do it. Natalia is brave to a point where it can be argued that she's desensitized to terrible surroundings and situations. She doesn't cover her ears when she hears gunshots, and doesn't close her eyes to horrible scenes. If told to stay somewhere, she will stay there and understand that getting out of her hiding spot would only turn her into a hindrance.

And despite everything, Natalia still retains an innocent sort of worldview, where she can smile and joke so long as everything would be alright, even if it's right after something terrible happened. An iconic part of the game is where Natalia and Barry are separated in the sewers, where Natalia has to open all the sluice gates in order for the pair to proceed while Barry stands on a different level to shoot the monsters around Natalia. She never wavers, and often even calls for Barry to help shoot barricades in her way because she can't get through.

One important, and strange, thing to note: Natalia does not panic.

If she ever did in the game, it's not shown. She runs away, yes, but it's the smart thing to do when trapped in a place where people turn into monsters. When Claire tells her it's okay, Natalia stops running. When she meets Barry, Natalia is entirely calm. Her emotions are rather muted for a child, as yes she does get scared and she gets sad and happy and everything else, but only in an appropriate time and place. She doesn't throw tantrums. She understands when it's not the ideal situation to act out, and will even push back her emotions in order to continue. This is focused on early in the game after a long monster fight and Barry asks her if she's okay. Natalia, with a great hesitation, eventually informs him that she's fine.

Beneath all of that, however, is likely a very scared and lost little girl. Natalia tries her best not to show it, and therefore it's hard to see, but the glimpse we do see into that aspect is shown by her bracelet: the fear bracelet that everyone on the island wears to signify how close they are to changing into monsters. Natalia's bracelet is constantly in the red, which means she's constantly scared enough for a normal person to have already changed. Two examples that we see where people hit that threshold are with Pedro and Gabriel, the former who had a near panic attack before he mutated and the latter who crossed that threshold after he lost control of a helicopter and was crash landing. That's basically the level of fear Natalia has already crossed, and yet she has enough control of herself that she could probably still be classified as the token creepy little girl (the first time the player gets a good look at her, Natalia's expression is entirely blank).

Thanks to Alex Wesker, Natalia's mind is... quite the disturbing place. Natalia, however, takes it completely in stride (and that in itself says a lot about her). As seen in the game, Lottie tends to speak quite cheerfully with Natalia on the subjects of suicide and dismemberment, and there's also the little fact that Alex embedded the entirety for her memories and personality deep within Natalia's subconscious (which will be extrapolated in the powers/ability section). As such, however, Natalia is going to be... very hard to unsettle. She's seen a lot of very strange, very terrifying things, and she isn't afraid the way normal children would be. Natalia is perfectly willing to crawl through a very small hole all on her own without knowing what kind of monsters are on the other side. Actually, she's quite willing to do a lot -- whatever is asked of her, almost. While she never trusted Alex, she calls Neil the 'nice man' who saved her, despite the fact that it was because of Neil that she was subjected to the later horrors of her game.

Another aspect of her personality comes down to a need to keep peace. She doesn't like causing trouble, doesn't like stirring up tension. Even when someone is very blatantly trying to get a rise out of her, Natalia will ignore the insults and keep going. Alex spent quite a while insulting her in her mind, and yet Natalia never told her to stop it. While she looked upset and the words certainly bothered her, she doesn't defend herself until much later.
Dark!Natalia: I can take that sadness away... if you let me in. You just have to trust me.
Natalia: I don't know you! You're not me at all! I want Lottie!
Dark!Natalia: Why... won't you make this easy?
She's young and impressionable, but certainly no pushover. Natalia has an entire extra where the player takes her through the island, and despite Alex being in her mind the entire time taunting her and pushing for control, Natalia never once thought about giving in despite Alex looking exactly like her (the game lists her as Dark!Natalia), because she didn't know this person in her head and that stranger was very obviously not making sense. While she trusts easily, she won't trust people she doesn't know. If might be easy to win her over, but for the people who don't even try, she doesn't have that much time for. She has a childish mentality still where she will trust 'kind' people, and distrust bullies.

Despite everything that's happened to her, that's still happening to her, Natalia is still also a child. She's trusting and malleable, and scares like a child would. She wants someone to take care of her, but is just smart enough to understand that not everyone will because not everyone is good. That means she knows enough to run away from danger, even if that danger is another person. And more than anything, Natalia is sweet. She's still entirely innocent. She's trusting. And it's so, so easy to see it within just a few seconds of meeting her. She even shows concern for Dark!Natalia, although that slowly tapers off as Dark!Natalia continues to subtly insult her. She eventually outwits Dark!Natalia, revealing the real culprit to be Alex who's been trying to mentally break her the entire time. While Natalia strives to bury her negative emotions, what's left isn't emptiness but a lot of positive things as well. This makes her rather cheerful and quietly optimistic when not in dire situations.

Perhaps the one real connection she made outside of her own head through the game was her relationship with Barry Burton, whose goal in the game is to save his daughter Moira. He's the one who kept her safe, who killed the monsters, and who calls her sweet nicknames like 'honey' and 'sweetheart' and actually asks after her despite Natalia's repetitive assurances that she's okay. To her, Barry is like a father figure she never had, and yet despite her very obvious attachment to him, Natalia never really allows herself to imagine that he might want to keep her after he found his daughter again. It's only in one of the endings (not the one she's being taken from for this game) where everything ends well and Barry states quite obviously that he's going to take care of her now that Natalia allows herself the hope of a family. Barry is very important to her, because of everything he's done for her and because of his deep connection with his daughters that Natalia admires, but until it's confirmed that he was going to take care of her beyond their shared experiences on the island, Natalia isn't holding out for anyone, even Barry, to care about her after everything's over.

Behind all her bravado and grudging maturity, Natalia is still very much an insecure little girl orphaned at too young an age to truly understand what it's like to have a family.

Powers/Abilities:
Natalia: Until Lottie came along... I was so scared.
Dark!Natalia: Urg! Well, alright, we'll keep looking. But I don't think you need her. You're stronger than that now.
Natalia is the one person entirely unaffected by the fear virus. Or that's what it seems like at first, seeing as her fear bracelet was constantly in the red and yet she never turned into a monster or even hinted that she felt strange (of course, it's doubtful she would bring it up even if she did feel off). The virus instead seems to have bonded to her in a way that's actually... helpful. For one, Natalia now has the ability to 'sense' monsters, even the invisible ones. She sees them as hazy colored mist even through walls, like extremely blurry x-ray vision. She can also move in such a manner that the monsters don't sense her at all if she's trying to hide. She learned how to pick locks. And for the most part, that's the majority of her powers.

And yet, thanks to the virus and further machinations by Alex Wesker, Natalia is hiding a full repertoire of abilities that's barely hinted at even in the game. She does not know this. Deep inside Natalia's mind hides all the memories and personality of Alex Wesker, who is a brilliant (and psychopathic) scientist who believes herself superior to everyone, and sometimes that personality will surface to fight Natalia for dominance. Sometimes this brings with it knowledge that Natalia isn't supposed to know, and other times it just brings her headaches. The thing is, despite Natalia not knowing anything about her own abilities, Alex has been studying the virus and knows what it can do. And Alex, in Natalia's body, has demonstrated a strength beyond measure when she (SPOILERS) cut off the hand of the final boss without using a weapon when that hand had wrapped all around Natalia's torso, and then casually ripped out the boss's heart. During this time, her eyes glowed red (leaving a vapor trail of light in wake of her movements) and she seemed to heal all the injuries the boss dealt to Natalia (as her bones and inner organs had probably been crushed prior to that).

But Natalia herself doesn't know any of this. She doesn't even know that she's constantly fighting Alex for dominance, seeing as the scientist planned to have all her own memories awaken in Natalia to take her over. Wesker comes to her in many guises, and was once shown as a mirror version of Natalia wearing red and black constantly mocking her and telling her to give up control. We don't yet know the full range of abilities that Alex would have if she ever took over Natalia, or even abilities that Natalia will later on develop.

For now, though, she's just a somewhat normal little girl with the skill of being very unnoticeable and an ability to see where monsters are.

Keepsakes/Mementos:
Her teddy bear Lottie, hair ribbons, and excess items that she's carrying for Barry: namely shotgun shells, handgun bullets, bandages, green healing plants, and smoke bottles. Also, Franz Kafka's The Octavo Notebooks (which she has in a different ending of the game).

Sample:
She didn't expect it.

She should have. Natalia didn't understand why Alex wanted her dead so badly, but the woman turned herself into a monster just to stop Natalia from... what? She didn't know. How could she know? It was Alex who knew everything about the island, and it was Alex who put Natalia to sleep all this time. Natalia just woke up in the middle of this, with a voice in her head mocking her every decision. Lottie. It was Alex who tore Lottie apart, scattering the remains of her beloved bear in a mockery of a sacrifice.

It was all Alex's fault, all of it, all of it, but Natalia didn't know what to do in order to make anything right again. And because of that, because Alex wanted her dead so badly, it was Barry who had to fight this crazy monster to keep her safe. A misshapen abomination, a mockery of who Alex Wesker once was: eyes red and desperate, limbs waxy and monstrously large, and no torso save for a spine that looked more like steel and needles than bone. She was crazy, must have been, to have done something like this. (Wasn't she?)

But now that monstrous body was lying still on the ground and Barry was stepping forward to check if she was finally dead or not. All Natalia could do was follow along, thoughts swirling in her head even as she kept as silent and unnoticeable as possible. Barry was handling the situation. Barry had everything under control. He took care of this.

Except Natalia should have expected that Alex had one more card up her sleeve. She always did, after all. Always had something more that other people weren't expecting. And Natalia should have expected that Alex wasn't dead yet, that of course the monster would play dead just to get her prey closer to her.

She should have expected it, but she didn't.

And because of that oversight, Natalia found herself trapped in a vice grip, struggling against a giant hand around her torso ever tightening even as burning red eyes stared straight at her, unblinking, and a monstrous face sneered and bared its teeth at her. Natalia could do nothing even as she was lifted off the ground, because Barry had been shoved aside like an insect and she just didn't have the air to call out for him and the pressure was too much; it hurt and seared her from the inside out, like ribs creaking and cracking and breaking all at once and her insides were nothing but mush --

'Barry!' she wanted to call out. 'Help!'

He was so far away. It just hurt so very, very much. Natalia could hear Alex's expectant breaths as the pressure around her torso continued to increase even more. She struggled and she shoved, but the hand didn't budge an inch.

No, she thought dimly. This couldn't be it! After everything, after all of this, this couldn't be the end! Fairy tales didn't end like this. The monster was supposed to be beaten, and the knight in shining armor was going to take the princess away and keep her safe. Alex wasn't supposed to win!

Worst of all, Natalia hated the voice laughing inside her head, louder and louder as her own thoughts dimmed. It was scary, too scary, how that laughter sounded so cruel. Worst of all, before her last thought finally faded against the pressure of pain, was that the laughter was so familiar because it was her own.

Mindset:
She will most likely believe in what's happening rather than think it a dream, although it wouldn't take much to convince her otherwise. She's very accepting and believes people easily, so if someone (who wasn't mocking her) told her it was the afterlife, she'd believe it, and if someone told her it was just a dream, there's a good chance she might believe that as well. For the most part, however, she might just be convinced that this is just another 'experiment', since she's just lived through an experiment where she was kidnapped and thrown on a strange island where people turned into monsters. She... remembers her own death, but with the way her memories have been, she's not sure if she believes it. Maybe she was just really injured? Again, if people told her she died, she'd likely believe it.

Whatever happens, however, will likely feel more like a continuation of the hell she's already endured. It might take some time to get her out of the mindset that there could be monsters around every corner.

G̶̶l̨͡i̵͢t̷c͝͠h̕é͠s̷̷͡:
Natalia is scared of being left on her own. She's an orphan without a stable family, likely passed around through the years seeing as she ended right back up in TerraSave rather than in any sort of home. She's so scared of being left on her own that she will actually traverse an island full of monsters who all want to kill her just so she could save Lottie, her teddy bear, because Lottie's the one thing that never leaves her. Strangely enough, she's not that scared of monsters and deadly things that would kill her. A real and tangible fear, though, is Alex. Natalia is terrified of Alex, although the reason why isn't entirely clear. Because Alex experimented on her? Because Alex's voice is in her head? It's also likely that Natalia is afraid of everything collapsing around her, like what happened in Terragrigia.
